New funding arrangements

The consultation document suggests that more schools will benefit from the proposals than will lose out, but schools in larger cities will find themselves worse off despite some level of protection being offered. The consultation was launched shortly following a National Audit Office report which set out that schools would need to save over £3bn by 2020.

Competency Framework for Governors

The Department for Education (DfE) has published a new “Competency Framework for Governance”. The Competency Framework was developed by an expert group led by Sir David Carter, the national schools commissioner.

New Staffing & Employment Advice for Schools February 2017

This guidance applies to maintained schools and academies in England.

It is for:

  • school leaders, school staff and governing bodies
  • local authorities
  • academy trusts

It will help with managing staffing and employment issues, and making decisions. It replaces the statutory guidance from 2009, ‘Guidance on managing staff in schools’.
